Welcome to the web site of the Utah Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).  The Department is responsible for chartering, regulating, supervising and examining state-chartered financial institutions.  DFI also has jurisdiction over residential mortgage and consumer lending. This web site is designed to provide useful information for the general public and financial institutions within the State of Utah.  It contains listings of financial institutions, mortgage and consumer lender information, downloadable forms, general information, links to other related sites and more. WARNING TO CONSUMERS (3/1/12) - The Utah Department of Financial Institutions has recently learned the following: An internet lender using the name “Check Cash Advance” has been offering deferred deposit loans over the internet.  The internet lender “Check Cash Advance” is not registered with the Department. Lenders who are not registered with the Department are not authorized to make loans to Utah residents. Check Cash Advance Inc. of Murray, Utah is registered with the Department as a deferred deposit lender.  This company provides loans to local residents and does not make loans over the internet.  This lender is not affiliated with the unregistered internet lender. Individuals who disclose personal financial information to an entity over the internet without first verifying that the entity is authorized to do business in the state where the borrower resides, are doing so at their own risk. Are My Deposits Safe? - Recent media attention has prompted questions from depositors at bank and credit unions as to the safety of their deposits.
